Spectator and Team Conduct Policy

The Community Basketball League (CBL) is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and sportsmanlike environment for all participants, including players, coaches, referees, and spectators. To uphold these standards, the following conduct policy applies to all CBL-sanctioned events:

Spectator Conduct Policy

Prohibited Behavior:

Spectators are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that supports a positive experience for all. The following behaviors are strictly prohibited:

  • Verbal abuse, harassment, or intimidation of players, referees, coaches, or officials.
  • Disorderly conduct, including excessive yelling, aggressive behavior, or any action that disrupts the game.
  • Any form of unsportsmanlike conduct that creates a hostile environment.
  • Any form of verbal or physical action that insinuates physical violence against a player, referee, coach, official, league officer, or other spectators

Penalties for Violations:

  • A $100 fine per instance of misconduct will be imposed on the spectator’s associated team/organization.
  • Forfeiture of the Game in which the incident occurred
  • Repeated or severe offenses may result in the revocation of spectator privileges for the team for the remainder of the season, including playoffs.

Zero Tolerance Policy for Physical Altercations

Team and Spectator Accountability:

Any player, coach, or spectator involved in a physical altercation—including fights, assaults, or any form of violence—will result in:

  • A $100 fine per instance (charged to the associated team/organization).
  • Immediate removal from the game and immediate suspension pending league review.
  • Forfeiture of the Game in which the incident occurred
  • Possible expulsion from the CBL for repeat or severe offenses.

Spectator Impact:

If a physical altercation involves spectators, all spectators associated with the offending team will lose their spectator privileges for the remainder of the season, including playoffs.

Board Review and Additional Sanctions:

The CBL Board reserves the right to review incidents on a case-by-case basis and impose additional disciplinary actions, including permanent expulsion from the league.

Enforcement and Compliance

Fine Payment and Game Eligibility:

  • Fines must be paid within 15 business days

    • If unable to pay the fine by the due date, due to organizational overhead or restrictions, the organization must submit a signed commitment to pay that indicates the reason for the late payment by the due date.

  • Failure to comply may result in game forfeits or further disciplinary action.

No Refunds for Removals:

Teams or individuals removed under this policy are not entitled to refunds for registration fees or any other associated costs.

League Authority:

The CBL Board retains full authority to determine the severity of each violation and implement further sanctions as necessary.

Policy Agreement

By participating in the CBL, all players, coaches, and spectators agree to abide by this Conduct Policy to ensure a safe, respectful, and sportsmanlike environment for all.
